Inauguration of Gambifood Processing Center Marks a Milestone in Kerr Jarga, Jokadou District

Kerr Jarga, North Bank Region, December 16, 2023 –
A momentous occasion unfolded today as the Gambifood Processing Center was officially inaugurated in Kerr Jarga, Jokadou District, marking a significant step towards enhancing food processing capabilities in the region. Project is funded by the UN to empower women in enterpreneurship and implemented by the Fatoumata Jawara of Maa Foundation.
The event commenced with the arrival and registrations of attendees between 8:30 and 10:00, setting the stage for a day filled with insightful speeches, cultural performances, and expressions of gratitude.
The Opening Prayer, led by Imam Ratib, created a solemn atmosphere, followed by a warm welcome from the Alkalo of Kerr Jarga, setting the tone for the proceedings. The distinguished Mayoress Rohey Malick Lowe, a prominent female politician, delivered a compelling statement between 10:10 and 10:30, emphasizing the importance of initiatives like the Gambifood Processing Center.
The Chief of Jokadou shared his remarks, underscoring the community’s commitment to progress, followed by a powerful statement from Fatoumata Jawara, the CEO & Founder of the Maa Foundation, shedding light on the foundation’s role in supporting such impactful projects.
Entertainment filled the air from 11:00 to 11:30, showcasing the vibrant cultural diversity of the region. Hon. Lamin SaidyKhan, the Governor, took the stage at 11:30, expressing his thoughts on the socio-economic implications of the new processing center.
The UNFPA Resident Representative, Ms. Ndeye Rose Sarr, and the MoGCSW DPS Kajali Sonko delivered crucial statements, emphasizing the collaborative effort required for sustainable development.
Cultural groups added a festive touch to the event with captivating performances from 12:30 to 12:50, leading up to the Vote of Thanks by Lady Councilor Awa Gaye.
The highlight of the day unfolded as Her Excellency, H.E Fatoumata Bah-Barrow, delivered the keynote address at 13:00, sharing insights into the government’s commitment to economic growth and community empowerment through such initiatives.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony at 14:00 marked the official opening of the Gambifood Processing Center, symbolizing hope, progress, and a promising future for the community. Cultural groups continued to enchant the audience, and the event was expertly hosted by Mariyann G. Jabang, the Director of Gender at MoGCSW, and co-hosted by Muhammed Mbye, Deputy CEO of MFWPROGRAM.
